Our products and research results are used in hospitals and labs all over the world and thus contribute to greater global health.

Our research areas

Our research focuses on developing and modifying the production chain for existing and new radiopharmaceutical products. Three areas are important here:

  1. Processing technology: developing knowledge and infrastructure dedicated to the chemistry and purification of irradiated materials. The conversion of the radioisotope into the radiochemical (RC) or radiopharmaceutical (RP).

  2. Irradiation technology: maintaining the level of knowledge and infrastructure for irradiation and knowing how to produce a radioisotope from the primary material under the right radiation conditions.

  3. Handling production and R&D facilities for radiopharmaceutical drugs. This requires maintaining knowledge in nuclear science (safety, radiation, waste) on the one hand, and in the medical field (Good Manufacturing Practices, GMP) on the other. Such knowledge is necessary if we want to be ready for the products of the future.

GMP is a quality control system.  The quality and purity of the medicinal products administered can only be safeguarded if the entire production process is regulated and controlled. Two important research projects that NRG PALLAS is working on are the SECURE project and the ILLUMINATE project.

SECURE: For a Sustainable Future of Medical Isotopes

The SECURE project strengthens the sustainability and safety of medical isotopes in Europe. It focuses on innovative production methods and removing bottlenecks in the supply of alpha and beta emitters. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, the consortium develops guidelines for the safe application and scaling of nuclear therapies. In doing so, SECURE contributes to the availability of essential isotopes for the nuclear medicine of tomorrow.

ILLUMINATE: Innovation in Personalized Cancer Treatment

The ILLUMINATE project enhances theranostic treatments for metastatic prostate cancer using MeMRI technology, which visualizes tumor growth and treatment response. By combining diagnosis, therapy, and follow-up, theranostics offers personalized care. ILLUMINATE focuses on more effective use of lutetium-177 and its sustainable production. The project contributes to better treatment decisions, fewer side effects, and broader application of MeMRI in other cancer types.
