Construction of the PALLAS-reactor is an inspiring example for the Dutch nuclear value chain

NRG PALLAS helps Dutch suppliers take a step forward in the Dutch nuclear value chain

With the decision to build two nuclear power plants, the Netherlands is now facing the challenge of making this a reality. In Hilversum, during the Made For Nuclear event, companies were informed about what is involved in contributing to this effort and what is required to join this sector as a supplier. During the event, outgoing Minister of Climate and Green Growth, Sophie Hermans, was present. She stated that nuclear energy is needed in the energy mix as a reliable source of CO₂-free energy and that the Netherlands has great potential to rebuild this sector.

NRG PALLAS possesses all the knowledge needed to move from idea to realization. In addition to preparing permits and studies, it is also important to find technical companies that can contribute to the actual construction. During the Made For Nuclear event, NRG PALLAS showed what is required to build a reactor and what demands are placed on suppliers. The PALLAS project shows that there are plenty of possibilities for suppliers without nuclear experience as well. Marieke van Gemert, Manager New-Build at NRG PALLAS, stated: “We are happy to support companies so they can contribute to the realization of the new nuclear power plants. Companies that want to join the nuclear supply chain will primarily need to develop expertise in nuclear safety culture and meet strict quality requirements. Over the coming year, we will therefore organize various workshops on these themes with the Nuclear Academy.”

Becoming a supplier?

NRG PALLAS, commissioned by the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth, has created an information package outlining the opportunities within the Dutch and international supply chain are explained. Part of this package is an online quick scan (the Kansenkaart), which allows companies to discover their potential in the nuclear value chain through a short questionnaire.
