Construction update PALLAS-reactor Q1 2026
The joint teams of NRG PALLAS, FCC and ICHOS follow the steady progress on the ongoing construction works as well as the preparations for future activities. The construction works are currently underway for the foundation of the future Secondary cooling system building. Preparatory works for the construction of the PALLAS-reactor building have been completed, and construction of the first underground floor of the reactor building will begin shortly.
PALLAS-reactor building
In the construction pit, approximately 17 meters deep, works have been carried out to prepare for the construction of the first underground floor. The installation of the 350 tonnes of reinforcement steel has now been completed. The network of rebars, meticulously installed over the past weeks, spans across an area of approximately 42.5 by 45.5 metres.
The reinforcement is now ready for the concrete of the 1.5-metre-thick floor slab. In total, approximately 2,400 cubic metres of concrete will be used and poured in 5 sections. Each section will be poured continuously over several hours. The floor represents the first concrete work on the future building of the PALLAS-reactor, and its precision and material quality comply with the high standards required for a nuclear installation.
Secondary Cooling System: Construction pit works
Since the end of last year, the construction pit of the future Secondary cooling system building has been filled with water as the excavation progressed to a depth of -9.8m NAP. The previously installed strut frame, together with the water level in the pit, ensures the structural stability of the pit and the CMS walls. The excavation of layers of sand, clay and peat are executed in the wet way. As part of underwater works, specialized divers are conducting inspections at the bottom of the pit to check soil condition, clear and inspect the GEWI piles and the CSM walls. These activities are necessary to prepare the construction pit for the pour of underwater concrete.
Preparations for the intake line of the secondary cooling system have also started. This is the line through which water from the Noordhollandsch Kanaal will be extracted.
