NRG PALLAS Remains in Arnhem: A Strategic Choice for Future Growth at the Electricity Campus
NRG PALLAS, one of the driving forces behind nuclear energy in the Netherlands, will remain located at the Electricity Campus in Arnhem. As of September 1st, NRG PALLAS has relocated to building B01, a more prominent and central position on the campus. The move enables NRG PALLAS to expand its 80-person team in Arnhem and play an even greater role in the energy transition. Oost NL (East Netherlands Development Agency) played an advisory and facilitating role in the relocation.
The relocation aligns with the growing role of nuclear energy in the energy transition. As attention on reliable and low-carbon energy increases, the demand for specialized nuclear expertise is also growing, both nationally and internationally. NRG PALLAS, which originated from KEMA activities on the former 'Arnhems Buiten' site, plays a vital role in this ecosystem and is consequently expanding its services to meet this demand.
The Electricity Campus as an Ideal Hub
Joost van den Broek, Director of Consultancy & Services at NRG PALLAS, states: “The Electricity Campus is the ideal hub for us, placing us in proximity to influential organizations in the energy transition such as Kema, Tennet, Alliander, DNV, Hyosung, and CGI, as well as research and educational institutions. This environment fosters knowledge exchange and collaboration, which is essential for the further development of nuclear technology. It reflects our ambition to play an active role in the energy challenges of the future and to attract talent dedicated to advancing this important mission.”
NRG PALLAS also operates a test hall (B54) on the campus, where the company prepares robotic inspections for nuclear reactors throughout Europe. This lease agreement has also been renewed for another 10-year period. In total, NRG PALLAS now leases approximately 1,800 m$^2$ of lettable floor space on the Electricity Campus.
Strengthening the Ecosystem
Thijs van Dieren, co-owner of the campus with City Developer-S, is pleased with the company's expansion: “We are building a strong profile at the Electricity Campus in the field of electrification and the energy transition. NRG PALLAS is already a key player in this effort. Space became available in our landmark building, B01, which we can now largely fill while simultaneously offering room for future expansion. NRG PALLAS is a partner that actively engages with the campus facilities and programs, which are currently in full development.”
Oost NL, co-owner of the Electricity Campus through an investment from the 'Perspectieffonds Gelderland' (Gelderland Perspective Fund), played an advisory and facilitating role in the relocation of NRG PALLAS.
Bernold Kemperink, Project Manager Nuclear at Oost NL: “The fact that NRG PALLAS, with its nuclear test hall, is retained for Arnhem and is able to expand is vital for the development of the Electricity Campus and for strengthening Arnhem's position as the 'electricity capital' of Europe. They bring extensive knowledge and invest in talent through initiatives like the NRG PALLAS Academy. Attracting top talent is one of the greatest challenges for the future energy transition.”
