Unique opportunity: NRG PALLAS opens PALLAS construction site to the public

On Saturday 20 June, construction sites across the Netherlands will open their gates during the Day of Construction. NRG PALLAS is once again inviting visitors for a unique behind‑the‑scenes look. While the construction site is normally a restricted area, visitors now have the chance to see up close how work is progressing on the new PALLAS reactor. The PALLAS reactor will eventually replace the High Flux Reactor (HFR) at the Energy & Health Campus and will be essential for the production of medical isotopes and (energy) research. Every day, more than 30,000 patients worldwide depend on medical isotopes from Petten.

Previous edition
During the previous edition in 2024, several hundred interested visitors came to the construction site, where they could see the preparatory work with their own eyes. The combination of technology, societal relevance, and the normally inaccessible character of the site appeals to a broad audience: from local residents to families and those interested in innovation and healthcare. Read the recap here: Dag van de Bouw enthusiastically attended – Energy & Health Campus Petten.

Day of Construction 2026
This year, NRG PALLAS promises another inspiring day. Since the previous edition, a lot has happened. In May 2025, the preparatory work was completed, resulting in a 50-by-50‑metre excavation pit where the reactor building will be constructed. After the summer, Anita van den Ende, Secretary‑General of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), officially launched the construction phase.

During this day, visitors will gain a clear picture of the progress made since then. In addition to the excavation pit for the reactor building—where work is now underway on the first three floors—a second excavation pit can also be seen: the one for the secondary cooling building. This makes the project’s rapid development clearly visible.

The PALLAS construction site is not an ordinary construction location. Therefore, NRG PALLAS has specific requirements for visitors. Visitors must be able to walk independently and registration in advance is mandatory. Interested individuals can soon sign up on the NRG PALLAS website.

Are you interested? Make sure to register on time. We can only welcome a limited number of visitors, and once full, registration closes.
