Visit the NRG PALLAS knowledge sessions
At NRG PALLAS, we regularly receive questions on diverse topics. What exactly are medical isotopes? Why do we build a new reactor? And why at this specific location? To answer to these questions and provide a better insight into what happens at the Energy and Health Campus, we are organizing a series of knowledge sessions over the coming months. These sessions will take place at the NRG PALLAS visitors center, located in the church of Petten.
Previously, our newsletter subscribers received an early invitation to attend the sessions. Registration has since been opened to the public, and the first session has already taken place.
What is radiation
On September 16th, Folkert Draaisma, radiation protection expert at NRG PALLAS, introduced the participants to the world of radiation during the first session. What is radiation and how does it work? He explained the present of radiation in our daily lives. In the air, in the people around us, and even in a banana. Did you know that a pilot is exposed to more radiation annually than a reactor operator?
Upcoming sessions
In the months October, November and December, four more sessions will take place. On October 16th, Marcel Stokkel, nuclear medicine specialist at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital, will give a presentation about the medical use of isotopes. Followed by a second edition in November of this session, due to populair demand. In November, we will also welcome Marieke Klaver, Stakeholder Engagement Manager at PALLAS Programme, for a session on water usage, environmental impact and landscape integration. Finally, the last session will take place on December 11th, when Ben Slee, Project Manager for the Nuclear Island, will talk about the ongoing work taking place at the PALLAS construction site.
It is still possible to register for the knowledge sessions. The sessions will be held in Dutch. Registration is required and can be done via https://www.nrgpallas.com/nl/kennissessies-bezoekerscentrum-petten
